Peep Show and Australian filmmaker Jono Hill asks Canadian snowboarder Jess Kimura to riff on pain, play and perseverance in the first of Burn Ignite's collaborative film portraits.
Jess Kimura, 23, has torn up halfpipes from the age of 14. The half Japanese, half Canadian rookie shredder based in Whistler, Canada, divides her time between working construction, crewing on her all-girl snowboard film collective Peep Show, and leaving a fierce mark in the wake of a burgeoning snowboarding career.
Jess has been known to board with a broken arm, then skate, break her other arm and bust a knee. After that particular little adventure, she ended up sleeping in her car for two days waiting for a flight home. Yup, Jess knows fear; indeed one of her personal rules is still "scare yourself often".
What it boils down to, basically, is making that extra effort to push through your own perceived limits. Then see where you get.

This film was created alongside two other Burn productions, one a film portrait celebrating the electric lyrics and gritty beat artistry of rapper/poet Julius Wright, and the other a short film collaboration on the ultimate Mexico City street skate, featuring LA legend Steve Berra.
